The Il Tesoro Chianti 2002—like most traditional Chianti wines—is primarily made from Sangiovese, which must make up at least 75% of the blend according to DOCG regulations at that time. The rest of the blend may include small amounts of other approved red grapes such as Canaiolo Nero, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Merlot. Additionally, before 2006, some white grape varieties like Malvasia and Trebbiano were sometimes included, but those are less common in quality-focused Chiantis.
